Little did Lil Anderson know when she began her career as a public health nurse in 1976 that she would end up as the Chairman of the National Association of Community Health Centers — and the CEO of RiverStone Health, a position she has held for 15 years. But that’s Lil Anderson.
With energy, vision, determination and a sense of humor, Anderson has taken the organization from a sleepy adjunct of the county government — a place where all the employees could fit in one room — to a vibrant organization with more than 325 employees and an annual operating budget of $30 million. In the process, Anderson has transformed a typical county health department into a multi-jurisdictional organization, added new services, developed a public–private partnership, and created a new model for public health that any community could be proud of.
With her superb leadership skills, Anderson could have made her mark anywhere. But, she says, “I can’t imagine working anywhere else. This is a dynamic organization that values patient/client services. And our staff is committed to quality and the expansion of our services to the entire community.”
