Subdivisions

RiverStone Health Environmental Health Services is contracted by DEQ Subdivisions to perform reviews of subdivision plat and certificate of survey applications. Parcels that are less than 20 acres in size are subject to DEQ review and approval. We review and approve parcels that are from 20-160 acres in size.

Required primary review data includes:

  • soils information
  • seasonal groundwater levels
  • nondegradation analysis for nitrates and phosphorus breakout
  • scaled lot layouts
  • chemical and bacteriological water tests of well water and storm water calculations.
  • There is a review fee per lot based on water and sewer system types, and reviews take 60 days.

Septic Tanks

Plans for individual onsite wastewater systems in Yellowstone County are reviewed by RiverStone Health Environmental Health Services. We issue applications to homeowners, developers or installers.  We inspect both new systems and repairs prior to placing the system into use. We ensure proper system installation in accordance with the design criteria and standards set forth by the Board of Health. In addition to issuing septic permits, we also routinely examine installers and enforce licensing guidelines. We also issue septic and cistern letters to lending institutions.

Trailer Courts

Montana law requires that RiverStone Health Environmental Health Services annually inspect trailer courts as part of the state licensing process.  A trailer court is defined as two or more trailers located on contiguous land that is rented to the public.  Inspections include septic systems, solid waste, animals, weeds, and service buildings. Water tests for wells are submitted for trailer courts on private systems.
