Chronic diseases - such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes — are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. A chronic disease is one lasting three months or more, by the definition of the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics. Chronic diseases generally cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication, nor do they just disappear. These diseases cause major limitations in day-to-day activities for almost one in very ten Americans. Although chronic diseases are among the most common and costly health problems, they are also some of the most preventable.
At RiverStone Health we seek to provide outreach and education on ways to prevent chronic diseases, including:
- Supporting programs to promote healthy behaviors
- Providing education to better the understanding of the causes of chronic disease
- Partnering with state and local agencies, voluntary associations, private organizations and other agencies to create a healthier nation
